Statistics show that 18% of applicants use fraudulent identities that could have been caught with a CBSV search.

 

The Social Security Administration (SSA) developed the Consent Based SSN Verification (CBSV) in 2002 to help businesses protect their interests.   

The CBSV verifies if the SSN holder’s name, date of birth, and SSN match SSA’s records and will also search the Death Master Index to identify if the holder is deceased.

ESR performs Consent Based SSN Verification (CBSV) directly with the Social Security Administration (SSA) as the designated agent for companies who have enrolled in the CBSV program. Prior consent of the SSN holder is required on form SSA-89.

The CBSV search can be utilized both pre-hire and post hire, making it one of the strongest methods for validating personal identifiers against official U.S. federal government sources.  

 This search is recommended for any organization and is often used by companies that provide banking and mortgage services and to satisfy licensing requirements.

Note:

CBSV does not verify identity, citizenship, employment eligibility, nor does it interface with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) verification system. CBSV verifications do not satisfy DHS’s I-9 requirements.
