Employees are typically a firm’s biggest financial investment as well as a large source of potential risk. Just one bad hire can result in a legal and financial nightmare, including workplace violence, theft and unqualified employees. Consequently, negligent hiring is one of the fastest growing areas of employment litigation. In addition, new rules announced by the EEOC in April 2012 on the use of criminal records has the potential to impact how every employer in America hires. Employers also need to be aware of cutting edge developments, including the “Ban the Box” approach to criminal records on employment applications, the use of social media sites and password protections, and limitations on credit reports. To help keep your business productive and out of court, speaker Lester Rosen will share legally compliant best practices, recent legal developments, review the “Only in California” rules, and discuss the next cutting-edge trends in background checks. Protect yourself and your company by learning successful strategies on how to obtain and utilize criminal records and background information of job applicants and prospective employees. Attend this session and be better prepared for that next important hiring decision.
