According to the March 2011 ADP National Employment Report®, employment in the private-sector increased by 201,000 jobs from February to March, a figure similar to the expectatations for the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) jobs report to be released April 1, 2011.
The March 2011 ADP Report shows private-sector employment accelerated heading into 2011, as the average monthly increase in employment December through March of 211,000 jobs was nearly three times the average monthly gain of 74,000 jobs August through November.
Sectors showing increases in employment in the ADP Report included the following:
- Service-providing sector employment increased by 164,000 jobs in March, the fifteenth consecutive monthly gain.
- Goods-producing sector employment increased by 37,000 jobs, the fifth consecutive monthly gain.
- Manufacturing sector employment increased by 37,000 jobs, the sixth consecutive monthly gain.
In March 2011, employment at large businesses (500 or more workers) increased by 17,000 jobs, employment at medium businesses (50 and 499 workers) increased by 82,000 jobs, and employment at small businesses (fewer than 50 workers) increased by 102,000 jobs.
