ADP February 2012 Employment Report Shows 216000 Jobs Added to Private Sector

According to the February 2012 ADP National Employment Report® from Automatic Data Processing, Inc. (ADP®), employment in the U.S. nonfarm private business sector increased by 216,000 jobs from January 2012 to February 2012, and February’s increase marks the twenty-fifth consecutive monthly gain in private employment as measured by the ADP report. The February 2012 ADP National Employment Report is available at: http://www.adpemploymentreport.com/pdf/FINAL_Report_February_12.pdf.

Of the 216,000 jobs added from January 2012 to February 2012, the February 2012 ADP Report found employment in the private service-providing sector rose by 170,000 jobs while employment in the private goods-producing sector increased by 46,000 jobs. Other highlights from the report include statistics on job gains in small, medium, and large businesses:

  • Small businesses representing payrolls with 1 to 49 employees added 108,000 jobs from January 2012 to February 2012.
  • Medium businesses representing payrolls with 50 to 499 employees added 88,000 jobs from January 2012 to February 2012.
  • Large businesses representing payrolls with more than 499 employees added 20,000 jobs from January 2012 to February 2012.

Of the 108,000 jobs created in private small business employment, the ADP Small Business Report® – a subset of the ADP National Employment Report – found that 90,000 small business jobs were created in the service-providing sector while 18,000 small business jobs were created in the goods-producing sector.

The February 2012 ADP Report also revised the gain in employment from December 2011 to January 2012 upwards from the initially reported 170,000 jobs to 173,000 jobs. The March 2012 ADP National Employment Report will be released April 4, 2012.

The ADP National Employment Report – created by ADP and maintained by Macroeconomic Advisers, LLC – is derived from actual payroll data from an anonymous subset of roughly 500,000 U.S. business clients and measures the change in total nonfarm private employment each month.
