The U.S. private sector employment increased by 176,000 jobs from May 2012 to June 2012, with employment in the private service-providing sector rising by 160,000 jobs and employment in the goods-producing sector adding 16,000 jobs during the month, according to the June 2012 ADP National Employment Report® from Automatic Data Processing, Inc. “According to the ADP National Employment Report, the economy added 176,000 jobs in June, the majority of which came from the services-providing sector,” Carlos A. Rodriguez, president and chief executive officer of ADP, stated in a press release from ADP. “Since January of this year, our National Employment Report shows that, on average, businesses have added 173,000 jobs a month. We hope this growth continues at even a healthier rate across all sectors of the economy.”
Also in the June 2012 ADP National Employment Report, the estimated gain from April 2012 to May 2012 was revised up slightly from the initial estimate of 133,000 jobs to a revised estimate of 136,000 jobs. Other highlights from the June 2012 ADP Report include:
- Small businesses representing payrolls with 1 to 49 employees added 93,000 jobs from May 2012 to June 2012.
- Medium businesses representing payrolls with 50 to 499 employees added 72,000 jobs from May 2012 to June 2012.
- Large businesses representing payrolls with more than 499 employees added 11,000 jobs from May 2012 to June 2012.
Of the 93,000 jobs created in private small business employment in June 2012, the ADP Small Business Report® – a subset of the ADP National Employment Report – revealed that 84,000 small business jobs were created in the service providing sector while 9,000 small business jobs were added in the goods producing sector.
Created by ADP in partnership with Macroeconomic Advisers, LLC, the ADP National Employment Report is derived from actual payroll data from an anonymous subset of approximately 500,000 U.S. business clients and measures the change in total nonfarm private employment each month. The July 2012 ADP National Employment Report will be released August 1, 2012.
