Employment in the U.S. nonfarm private business sector increased by 162,000 jobs from August to September, according to the September 2012 ADP National Employment Report® released by Automatic Data Processing, Inc. (ADP®). The report also found employment in the private service-providing sector expanded by 144,000 jobs in September while the private goods-producing sector added 18,000 jobs during the month. “Today’s report shows that year-to-date employment gains averaged 171,000 jobs per month, compared to an average increase of 138,000 jobs per month compared to the same period last year,” ADP president and CEO Carlos A. The September 2012 ADP Employment Report also revised estimated gains in previous months lower, with the July increase reduced by 17,000 jobs to an increase of 156,000 jobs and the August increase reduced by 12,000 jobs to an increase of 189,000 jobs. Highlights of the ADP report include:
- Small businesses representing payrolls with 1 to 49 employees added 81,000 jobs from August to September.
- Medium businesses representing payrolls with 50 to 499 employees added 64,000 jobs from August to September.
- Large businesses representing payrolls with more than 499 employees added 17,000 jobs from August to September.
Of the 81,000 jobs created in private small business employment from August to September, the ADP Small Business Report® – a subset of the ADP National Employment Report – revealed that the service providing sector added 74,000 jobs while the goods producing sector gained 7,000 jobs.
