HR West 2013 Conference Session to Feature Negligent Hiring Mock Trial on April 23 in Oakland

To help Human Resources professionals understand the importance of due diligence background checks, Attorney Lester Rosen – Founder and CEO of background check firm Employment Screening Resources® (ESR) – will present a session titled ‘Negligent Hiring Mock Trial: HR in the Hot Seat’ at the HR West® 2013 Conference on Tuesday, April 23, 2013. The session takes place from 3:15 PM to 4:30 PM at the Oakland Convention Center in Oakland, California. For more information, visit http://www.hrwest.org/.

“Negligent hiring is one of the fastest-growing areas of employment litigation,” says Rosen, author of ‘The Safe Hiring Manual,’ a comprehensive guide to screening updated for a second edition published in October 2012. “Hiring someone with a criminal record or falsified background can result in workplace violence, lawsuits for negligent hiring, and time wasted recruiting and hiring the wrong person.”

In the session – described by Rosen as “an educational episode of ‘Law and Order’ for Employers and HR professionals” – audience members will act as jurors in a negligent hiring mock trial demonstration, featuring opening statements, cross-examination of an HR professional, closing arguments, jury instructions, and a jury verdict. The session qualifies for PHR-CA/SPHR-CA and Legal Education credits.

Rosen is a nationally recognized safe hiring expert who was the chairperson of the steering committee that founded the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS®) and served as the first co-chairman. He is a frequent presenter nationwide and his speaking appearances have included numerous conferences and webinars for ‘ESR Speaks’ at http://www.esrcheck.com/ESR_Speaks.php.

The HR West® 2013 Conference is presented by the Northern California Human Resources Association (NCHRA) and takes place from April 22 to 24, 2013 at the Oakland Convention Center in Oakland, CA. All conference sessions have been pre-approved for recertification credits toward PHR, SPHR, PHR-CA, SPHR-CA and GPHR. For more information about the conference, visit http://www.hrwest.org/.
