Attorney Lester Rosen, Founder and CEO of background check firm Employment Screening Resources® (ESR), will speak about compliance with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) guidance for the use of criminal records by employers when hiring in a webinar sponsored by leading HR and payroll software provider Paycor on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. ET. To register for the webinar, click here or visit http://www.paycor.com/paycor-webinars.
“The EEOC issued a new guidance in April 2012 on the use of criminal records in hiring decisions that has the potential to totally change how every employer in America approaches hiring,” says Rosen, author of ‘The Safe Hiring Manual,’ a guide to background checks. “The EEOC has filed lawsuits and investigated employers for practices that allegedly created a ‘disparate impact’ by the use of criminal records.”
On April 25, 2012, the EEOC issued ‘Enforcement Guidance on the Consideration of Arrest and Conviction Records in Employment Decisions Under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.’ The EEOC enforces federal laws prohibiting employment discrimination under Title VII, which prohibits employment discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.
In the hour long webinar, background screening industry expert Lester Rosen explains about compliance with the EEOC when it comes to hiring and background checks. The updated EEOC guidance – which Rosen says “greatly expands on how employers should apply the rules” when considering criminal records when hiring – is available at http://www.eeoc.gov/laws/guidance/arrest_conviction.cfm.
Rosen will also host a second webinar sponsored by Paycor about social media and hiring practices on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. ET. In the hour long webinar, Rosen will examine the potential legal landmines when using social media for screening including issues with discrimination, privacy, and accuracy.
