Background Check Consumer Protection Group Concerned CRAs Reaches 200 Members

Background check consumer protection watchdog group Concerned CRAs has accepted its 200th participating employment background screening company, according to a press release available at http://www.prweb.com/releases/backgroundchecks/employment/prweb11304787.htm.

“Many employers make the mistake of thinking all background check services are the basically the same when, in fact, under the hood, there can be extremely large variations in how firms provide these services,” said Attorney Lester Rosen, founder and CEO of Employment Screening Resources® (ESR), while commenting on the 200 member milestone for Concerned CRAs. “Part of the reason behind Concerned CRAs was to highlight two areas where employers may want to carefully examine the way a screening firm operates.”

Employment background screening firms – also called Consumer Reporting Agencies (CRAs) – that join Concerned CRAs pledge to verify the accuracy of information they provide on reports and avoid “offshoring” personal information of Americans used for background check reports outside of the United States.

“We started Concerned CRAs to highlight the fact that there are a lot of good employment screening companies that follow best practices,” Mike Coffey, SPHR, president of Imperative Information Group, stated in the press release. “I’m gratified that we have become the voice of consumer best practices in the employment background check area.”

“Sloppy research and cutting corners by screening firms who look for profits over accuracy is the reason Concerned CRAs was started,” Larry Lambeth, president of Employment Screening Services, stated in the press release. “We constantly get calls from employment applicants wanting to know why another company reported criminal information that was not really them. We virtually always find it was reported through a check of an ‘instant’ criminal database and the Consumer Reporting Agency skipped the procedures to go to the source and properly verify the records.”
