Sorenson as the new NAPBS Executive Director as of January 1, 2014, according to an announcement in the NAPBS Thursday Letter dated January 2, 2014. According to the announcement in the NAPBS Thursday Letter:
The NAPBS Board of Directors is delighted to announce that Melissa L. Sorenson has been retained as the new NAPBS Executive Director as of January 1, 2014.
Retaining a dedicated Executive Director has been a vision for NAPBS since its inception. Due to strong leadership over our 10 years as an association this vision is a reality in 2014.
This opportunity came to the Board during the last quarter of 2013 when our management company president and owner, Stevie Kernick, along with Melissa Sorenson, approached the Board of Directors with a plan for 2014 that would include retaining Sorenson as the Executive Director. Kernick and Sorenson’s plan marries strong industry leadership with an efficient management staff to take NAPBS to a higher level of functionality.
An Executive Director is the face and voice of the association and works in conjunction with the management company which provides the day-to-day administrative duties for the association. IMI will remain active and visible with the members while the Executive Director will lead and oversee the association interfacing with legislators, regulators, media, and the public and major stakeholders.
“It has been a long time goal for NAPBS to have an executive director to augment the wonderful job that Stevie Kernick and her team at IMI Association Executives perform,” said Employment Screening Resources® (ESR) founder and CEO Lester S. Rosen, who was also chair of the committee that founded NAPBS and served as its first co-chair. “Melissa Sorenson is the ideal executive director given her outstanding qualifications, her many years of dedication to the industry and NAPBS, and her leadership skills and vision for the organization. This is an essential step in the growth of NAPBS and a major win for screening firms and employers as well as consumers.”
The NAPBS Thursday Letter also announced Dawn Standerwick, a highly respected and knowledgeable screening industry veteran, will fill the unexpired term as secretary of the association left vacant when Melissa Sorenson was retained as the Executive Director.
Founded in 2003, NAPBS is a non-profit trade association representing the interest of more than 800 member companies in the United States and around the world offering background screening. The mission of NAPBS is to promote ethical business practices, compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), equal employment opportunity (EEO), and state consumer protection laws relating to the background screening profession.
