“Employers have long recognized that conducting due diligence background checks on new hires is a mission critical task,” says Rosen, author of The Safe Hiring Manual. “Employers can be sued for negligent hiring if they hire someone they should have known, through the exercise of due diligence, was dangerous, unfit, dishonest, or unqualified.”
In this session, Rosen will review the top ten trends when it comes to background checks, including Ban the Box, the use of social media sites, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) approach to the use of criminal records, the rise in class action lawsuits, international background screening, privacy, and the offshoring of personal data overseas.
Attendees of this training session will learn legally-complaint best practices for background checks a firm can utilize to avoid a bad hire yet keep productive and out of court. The session will cover best practices and legal developments affecting background checks and has been approved for 1.5 recertification credit hours through the HR Certification Institute (HRCI).
Rosen founded Employment Screening Resources® (ESR) in 1997 and the firm is accredited by the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS), a professional trade organization for the screening industry. He is a frequent presenter on issues involving background checks and safe hiring issues for the ESR Speaks training program.
