Attorney Lester Rosen, founder and CEO of background check firm Employment Screening Resources (ESR), will present a webinar with Clear Law Institute titled ‘Legal and Effective Reference Checking and Education Verification’ on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 from 3:00 PM ET to 4:15 PM ET. For more information, visit http://clearlawinstitute.com/shop/webinars-and-seminars/legal-effective-reference-checking-education-verification/.

“Unfortunately, falsifying or inflating employment and educational accomplishments has become a significant problem for employers,” explains Rosen, author of ‘The Safe Hiring Manual,’ a comprehensive guide to background checks. “It is easy to obtain a phony degree from a real school, or worthless diplomas from degree mills. There are even web sites that will assist in creating a fakes job history that appear very authentic.”

This webinar will review legal and effective techniques for the reference checking and education verification processes including how to spot worthless degrees and phony employment credentials, handling verification of current employment, what to do if the past employer no longer exists, military employment, dealing with employment databases, and potential liability when providing information. Attendees of the webinar will also:

  • Learn effective and legal strategies to verify an applicant’s past employment and education accomplishments.
  • Explore why employment references create legal issues for employers and strategies for obtaining information and dealing with requests from other employers.
  • Learn why phony education credentials are problematic and how to spot degree mills.
  • Review new technologies and approaches to credentials verifications.
  • Understand special issues when it comes to social media sites and employment and education verification.

The webinar ‘Legal and Effective Reference Checking and Education Verification’ has been approved by the HR Certification Institute (HRCI) for 1.25 hours of general recertification credit. Clear Law Institute is recognized by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) to offer Professional Development Credits (PDCs) for SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP.  This course qualifies for 1.25 PDCs.
