The webinar will be hosted by David Basham, a Senior Analyst with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for over 6 years who conducts briefings on Form I-9 and E-Verify. Basham serves as a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) point of contact for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

Attendees of the hour long webinar “Managing the Form I-9” will receive an expert’s perspective on how to manage their Form I-9 process. With government audits and penalties for non-compliance on the rise, proper management of the Form I-9 process is important. Attendees will learn best practices directly from the DHS. The webinar will cover the following:

  • The Form I-9 explained.
  • Completing the Form I-9.
  • Best practices for storage and retention.
  • Making corrections to the Form I-9.
  • How to avoid compliance issues & discrimination.
  • And more!

According to the USCIS website: Form I-9 is used for verifying the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment in the United States. All U.S. employers must ensure proper completion of Form I-9 for each individual they hire for employment in the United States. The latest version of the Form I-9 is available at www.uscis.gov/i-9.

As reported earlier by ESR News, the USCIS – the government agency that oversees lawful immigration to the United States – published a notice in the Federal Register to inform the public of proposed changes to Form I-9. Many of the proposed changes to the Form I-9 are intended to help reduce technical errors and help customers complete the form on their computer.
