Attorney Lester Rosen, the founder and CEO of background check firm Employment Screening Resources® (ESR), will present a workshop with TrainHR entitled ‘Legal and Effective Reference Checking and Education Verification’ on Monday, April 4, 2016, starting at 10:00 AM PDT / 01:00 PM EDT. “Unfortunately, falsifying or inflating employment and educational accomplishments has become a significant problem for employers,” says Rosen, author of ‘The Safe Hiring Manual,’ a comprehensive guide for background check issues. “There are degree mills that offer worthless diplomas and web sites creating fake job histories that appear real.”
The 90 minute workshop will review legal and effective techniques for reference checks, including how to verify education and spot worthless degrees and phony credentials. Rosen will also cover the legal landscape concerning past employment references, including an employer’s potential liability when providing or not providing information.
Other topics covered by Rosen include best practices when asking for past employment information and special issues such as handling verification of current employment, what to do if the past employer no longer exists, military employment, dealing with employment databases, and dealing with requests from other employers.
Hiring Managers, Human Resources Professionals Risk Managers, Security Fraud Investigators, In-house Counsel, and Labor Attorneys should attend the workshop, which has been approved for 1.5 (HR (General)) recertification credit hours toward PHR, SPHR and GPHR recertification through the HR Certification Institute (HRCI).
Rosen is a frequent presenter nationwide for “ESR Speaks” on background check issues and his speaking appearances include numerous national and statewide conferences. He has qualified and testified in the California, Florida, and Arkansas Superior Courts as an expert witness on issues surrounding due diligence.
Rosen founded Employment Screening Resources® (ESR) in 1997 in the San Francisco, California-area. ESR is accredited by the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS) and undergoes yearly SOC 2 audits to protect personal data of consumers.
