Two background check experts from Employment Screening Resources® (ESR) – ESR President and Chief Compliance Officer Brad Landin and ESR Vice President of Strategic Growth Dawn Standerwick – will co-present a session entitled “Hiring Compliance: Strategies and Trends for Background Checks” on Wednesday, November 9, 2016, from 2:15 PM to 3:15 PM ET at the Paycor Online HR and Compliance Web Summit.
During the hour long session, Landin and Standerwick will explore the key areas surrounding current and emerging compliance challenges and will provide tips attendees can use immediately to ensure their background check processes do not run afoul of the complex regulations surrounding background checks. Some of the topics covered during this session on background check compliance include:
- How employers get into trouble with their background check process.
- The increase of Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) class action lawsuits.
- What is Ban the Box and what are the recommendations to stay in compliance?
- U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) guidance on criminal records.
- Integrated technologies, compliance, and solutions for the background check process.
- Can background check industry consolidation hurt employers?
Landin and Standerwick will show employers why they need to be aware of the EEOC’s goal of eliminating discrimination and disparate treatment in employment and how this goal relates to ban the box legislation that is rapidly spreading across the United States. Landin and Standerwick will also demonstrate how simple rules and procedures can make background check compliance second nature.
Landin is a background check industry veteran who joined ESR in April 2011 and assumed the role of ESR President and Chief Compliance Officer in September 2011. He is responsible for all aspects of the company’s strategy, operations, and finances. Landin brings more than 35 years of management experience in both the private and public sectors and over 25 years of experience in regulated industry compliance matters.
Under Landin’s leadership, ESR completes yearly SOC 2® audits to ensure ESR meets high standards set by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) to protect the privacy, security, and confidentiality of consumer information. He also spearheaded the creation of the ESR Assured Compliance® system that automatically updates the ESR background screening process with required changes in hiring and employment laws.
Standerwick joined ESR in April 2015 as the Vice President Strategic Growth. She is responsible for sales, business development, marketing, and client success and has 25 years of experience in background screening, drug testing, and occupational health testing. She was elected Chair of the Board of Directors for the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS) for the 2016-17 term.
