FINRA Fines J.P. Morgan Securities $1.25 Million for Failing to Conduct Adequate Background Checks

On November 21, 2017, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) – which regulates brokerage firms doing business in the U.S. – announced it had fined J.P. Morgan Securities, LLC $1.25 million for failing to conduct adequate background checks on approximately 8,600, or 95 percent, of its non-registered associated persons from January 2009 to May 2017, according to a news release from FINRA. Uber Fined $8.9 Million by Colorado Public Utilities Commission Over Driver Background Checks

On November 20, 2017, criminal investigators with the Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC) issued a Civil Penalty Assessment Notice (CPAN) totaling $8.9 for Transportation Network Company (TNC) Uber Technologies, Inc. “for allowing individuals with disqualifying criminal or motor vehicle offenses, or without valid licenses, to drive for the company,” according to a news release from the Colorado PUC.
