Rosen – author of “The Safe Hiring Manual” – will present a session entitled “A Strategic Approach to a Legally Compliant and Effective Background Screening Program” on Monday, June 19, 2017, from 4:00 PM to 5:15 PM that will provide SHRM professionals a strategy to comply with their due diligence background check obligations.
Employers are utilizing pre-employment background screening as a risk management tool to avoid bad hiring decisions. However, background screening is increasingly subject to litigation including class action lawsuits, legislation, and regulation. Attendees of the session by Rosen at the SHRM 2017 Annual Conference will also:
- Learn how the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and similar state laws impact hiring.
- Understand the impact of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) Guidance and “Ban the Box” on the use of criminal records.
- Review the elements and defenses to negligent hiring lawsuits.
- Understand the current explosion in class action lawsuits related to background screening.
- Learn how to audit their background screening for legal compliance and best practices.
Rosen is a frequent speaker at national and statewide conferences on background check issues. He was the chairperson of the steering committee that founded the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS®) and served as first co-chair. He also has qualified as an expert witness on issues surrounding background screening.
