Attorney Lester Rosen, founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Employment Screening Resources® (ESR), will present the session “A Strategic Approach to a Legally Compliant and Effective Background Screening Program” (E352) on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, from 4:00 PM to 5:15 PM Central Time, during the 2018 Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Annual Conference & Exposition in Chicago, Illinois.
The session by Rosen – which is worth 1.25 SHRM Professional Development Credits (PDCs) – will audit key areas of legal compliance to help attendees hire the best while avoiding legal fallout when screening job applicants. Since organizations need a strategy to comply with due diligence obligations, the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), allegations of discrimination, and “Ban the Box” laws, Rosen’s session will:
- Review why employers utilize criminal records in order to promote due diligence.
- Help employers understand the sources of criminal records and how they are located and reported.
- Help employers understand the impact of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) Guidance on the on the use of criminal records.
- Show employers why re-entry programs can help them and why they are important to society as a whole.
- Show employers how to audit their current practices for legal compliance and best practices.
Rosen – author of the “The Safe Hiring Manual” – will help organizations utilizing background checks as a risk management tool avoid bad hiring decisions. However, since background checks are increasingly subject to litigation, legislation, and regulation, attendees of the presentation by Rosen will also learn the numerous complexities surrounding the use of criminal records in the hiring process.
The 70th annual 2018 SHRM Annual Conference & Exposition – which is being held June 17 to 20, 2018, at McCormick Place, at 2301 South King Drive, in Chicago, Illinois – will provide nearly 200 concurrent sessions organized into six tracks for Business & HR Strategy, HR Compliance, Global HR, Professional Development, Talent Management, and Total Rewards. Rosen is a frequent presenter nationwide on background screening and due diligence issues. In April 2018, Rosen spoke at the 2018 SHRM Talent Conference & Exposition held at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada.
