The National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS) – the leading national resource for issues related to the background screening profession – has announced that a record-breaking 882 background screening professionals attended the 2018 NAPBS Annual Conference.

The conference – which was held in Baltimore, Maryland from October 7th to 9th, 2018 – focused around the theme of “Passport to the World” and the educational agenda featured important updates on the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other global background screening challenges.

This is the third straight year of record-breaking attendance for the NAPBS as 817 background screening professionals attended the 2017 Annual Conference held in Orlando, Florida, while 763 background screening professionals attended the 2016 Annual Conference held in Palm Desert, California.

“The overwhelming support from the industry as we continue to break attendance records shows a commitment to excellence and sharing knowledge,” NAPBS 2018-19 Chair Angela Preston stated in a press release from the NAPBS about the record-breaking event. “I look forward to what’s in store.”

Founded in 2003, the NAPBS promotes ethical business practices and fosters awareness of privacy rights and consumer protection issues. The NAPBS is the leader in the movement toward establishing generally accepted and reliable standards for background screening professionals and organizations.

Upcoming NAPBS events include the 2019 Mid-Year Legislative & Regulatory Conference in Washington, D.C. from March 24th to 26th, 2019, and the 2019 Annual Conference in San Antonio, Texas from September 8th to 10th, 2019. To learn more about the NAPBS, visit www.napbs.com.

An “unprecedented” national survey of 2,137 Human Resource (HR) professionals released by the NAPBS and HR.com in May of 2018 revealed that 95 percent of employers currently conduct some form of employment background screening, around the same amount as the 96 percent recorded in the 2017 survey.
