On November 14, 2016, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced the publishing of a revised version of the Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification that employers must start using by January 22, 2017. Los Angeles Ban the Box Ordinance Takes Effect January 22

On December 9, 2016, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti signed into law a Ban the Box ordinance called the Fair Chance Initiative that requires employers to remove questions about criminal history from job applications and restricts them from asking job applicants about criminal convictions until after a conditional offer of employment. Sonoma County CA Court Workers Go on Strike

Sonoma County (CA) Superior Court workers have gone on strike after claiming contract negotiations broke down over pay and working conditions, as approximately 100 members of Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local No. 1021 carried picket signs and chanted slogans in front of the Hall of Justice in Santa Rosa, California, according to a report from the Santa Rosa Press Democrat. Workplace Safety Index Finds One Billion Dollars Spent Each Week on Injuries in U.S. Workplaces

The 2017 Liberty Mutual Workplace Safety Index produced by the Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety has found more than $1 billion is spent each week on serious but non-fatal injuries in workplaces in the United States. CFPB Orders TransUnion and Equifax to Pay for Deceiving Consumers about Credit Scores

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has ordered TransUnion and Equifax, Inc. to pay a total of more than $17.6 million in restitution to consumers, along with fines totaling $5.5 million to the CFPB, for deceiving consumers about the usefulness and actual cost of credit scores they sold to consumers, according to a news story on the CFPB website.
