November 2012 BLS Employment Report Shows 146000 Jobs Added while ADP Report Estimates 118000 Jobs Gained

Total nonfarm payroll employment in the United States increased by 146,000 jobs in November 2012 and the unemployment rate dropped to 7.7 percent from 7.9 percent, according to ‘THE EMPLOYMENT SITUATION — NOVEMBER 2012’ released by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The report also found that Hurricane Sandy – which hit the Northeast coast on October 29 and caused severe damage – “did not substantively impact the national employment and unemployment estimates for November.” The report is available at http://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/empsit.pdf until the December 2012 Employment Situation Report is released on Friday, January 4, 2013. August 2012 BLS Employment Report Shows 96000 Jobs Added while ADP Employment Report Finds 201000 Jobs Gained

Two employment reports released this week differed noticeably in calculating the number of jobs created in August 2012. ‘THE EMPLOYMENT SITUATION — AUGUST 2012’ released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported total nonfarm payroll employment in the United States rose by 96,000 jobs while the August 2012 ADP National Employment Report® from Automatic Data Processing, Inc. (ADP®) released Thursday found employment in the U.S. nonfarm private business sector increased by 201,000 jobs.
