Workplace Drug Testing More Common Among African American Workers Study Finds

EEOC Responds to Attorneys General Letter Urging Reconsideration of Criminal Background Check Guidance

The Chair of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has responded to a letter sent in July 2013 from the Attorneys General of nine states – Alabama, Colorado, Georgia, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, South Carolina, Utah, and West Virginia – that urged the EEOC to reconsider positions expressed in its ‘Enforcement Guidance on the Consideration of Arrest and Conviction Records in Employment Decisions Under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964’ approved in April 2012. Class Action Lawsuit over Background Checks for Rental Housing Tenants Settled for 150000 Dollars

A tenant screening company that background checks tenants for rental housing has agreed to pay $150,000 to settle a class action lawsuit over its screening practices, according to a report from the Associated Press (AP) on the Bloomberg Businessweek website. Government Background Check System Gave Navy Yard Gunman Security Clearance despite Arrest History

The U.S. government’s background check system gave Washington Navy Yard gunman Aaron Alexis, a military contractor and former Navy reservist, an all-access secret-level clearance pass to a several military installations despite a history of arrests and disorderly conduct, according to a report from The Washington Post. Officials say Alexis used his security clearance pass to enter the Washington Navy Yard and shoot 12 people to death before being killed by police.
