Statistics Show NFL Players May Be Less Likely to Get Arrested than General Public

While the perception for some sports fans is that National Football League (NFL) players cannot seem to stay out of trouble with the law, an NFL Arrests Database compiled by the San Diego Union-Tribune found an arrest rate of 1 in every 45 NFL players – or 2.2 percent – since 2000, according to a report from CBS station WCCO in Minneapolis, Minnesota that asked the question ‘Are Athletes Arrested More Than Others?’ When compared to Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) statistics for 2009 that show the national arrest rate for all arrests to be 1 in 23 – or 4.3 percent – the reality may be that the fans watching NFL games are more likely to get arrested than the players on the field. Survey Finds Nearly All Retailers Polled Use Background Screening to Keep Customers and Stores Safe

Illustrating the importance of employee background screening in keeping customers and retailers safe, the National Retail Federation (NRF) has released a new survey completed by retail executives from nearly 100 of the nation’s leading department stores, mass merchants, discounters, drug stores, grocery stores, and restaurants that shows nearly all retailers polled – 96.6 percent – utilize some form background screening during the application, hiring, and employment process. Registered Sex Offender Dressed in Cookie Monster Costume Arrested at State Fair

According to a report in The Quad-City (IA) Times, a registered sex offender dressed in a Cookie Monster costume, handing out fliers to children, and posing for pictures with children at the Mississippi Valley Fair in Davenport, Iowa was arrested on an aggravated misdemeanor charge after an officer of the County Sex Offender Task Force recognized the sex offender’s voice behind the mask. The Quad-City Times reports that the sex offender was convicted for lascivious acts with a minor, a 7-year-old girl, in 2005. Because of this conviction, the sex offender was not allowed to work or volunteer on the fairgrounds. Continue reading
