Think a background check is only for security clearances or new jobs? Think again. Jamie Spears, the father and co-conservator of star pop singer Britney Spears, has apparently vetted his daughter’s new love interest, Charlie Ebersol, with a background check, according to “webloid” RadarOnline.com. However, GossipCop.com reports the new boyfriend did not undergo a background check while a HuffingtonPost.com story from 2013 supports the RadarOnline.com claim by reporting that a background check was run on a previous boyfriend of Spears. Commission on Civil Rights Report Examines Effects of EEOC Guidance on Criminal Background Checks

A briefing report released by the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights (USCCR) – ‘Assessing the Impact of Criminal Background Checks and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Conviction Records Policy’ – examines the effects of the EEOC’s updated Guidance policy on the use of conviction records by employers on African-American and Latino job applicants. San Francisco Enacts Ban the Box Law Limiting Criminal Background Checks by Private Employers

On February 17, 2014, San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee signed ‘Ban the Box’ legislation – the Fair Chance Ordinance – that requires private employers in the city with 20 or more employees to limit the use of criminal background checks when hiring, according to a BloombergLaw.com report. The law takes effect 30 days after signing and is operative in 180 days. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the CareerBuilder annual survey on office romance has found that 38 percent – nearly two in five – of U.S. workers have dated someone working for the same company and 16 percent said they dated co-workers more than once.
