Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley has reintroduced legislation – the “Accountability Through Electronic Verification Act” – that would permanently authorize and require employers to use the E-Verify program, an Internet-based system that helps employers determine the eligibility of employees to work in the United States, according to a news release on Senator Grassley’s website. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced that a revised version of the Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification will be published by November 22, 2016. Employers may use the current version of the Form I-9 with a revision date of 03/08/2013 N until January 21, 2017. After January 21, 2017, all previous versions of Form I-9 will be invalid.
