May 2013 ADP National Employment Report Shows Increase of 135000 Jobs in Month

Private sector employment in the U.S. increased by 135,000 jobs from April 2013 to May 2013 on a seasonally adjusted basis, according to the May 2013 ADP National Employment Report® produced by Automatic Data Processing, Inc. (ADP®) in collaboration with Moody’s Analytics. Buffalo Council Bans the Box Asking Job Seekers about Criminal Convictions on Applications

The Common Council in Buffalo, New York has voted to “Ban the Box” and make it illegal for employers in the city to ask job seekers if they have been convicted of crimes on applications, according to a story on The Buffalo News website. New York City Passes Law Prohibiting Hiring Discrimination against Unemployed Job Applicants

The New York City Council has voted to override a veto by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to enact legislation – Intro 814-A – that prohibits employers from refusing to consider or hire qualified job applicants who are unemployed. The law prevents employers from using employment status in a hiring decision and from posting job ads that require applicants to be currently employed. The Council had originally passed the bill in January 2013 before the Mayor’s veto in February 2013. February 2013 Employment Situation Report Shows 236000 Jobs Added and Unemployment Rate at Lowest Level since 2008

Total nonfarm payroll employment in the United States increased by 236,000 jobs in February 2013 while the unemployment rate dropped to 7.7 percent – the lowest level since December 2008 – and the number of unemployed persons dipped to 12 million, according to ‘THE EMPLOYMENT SITUATION — FEBRUARY 2013’ released today by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The report also revised the change in nonfarm employment for December 2012 from 196,000 jobs added up to 219,000 jobs added and the change for January 2013 was revised from 157,000 jobs added down to 119,000 jobs added. February 2013 ADP National Employment Report Reveals Increase of 198000 Jobs in Month

Private sector employment in the U.S. increased by 198,000 jobs from January to February 2013 on a seasonally adjusted basis, according to the February 2013 ADP National Employment Report® produced by Automatic Data Processing, Inc. (ADP®) in collaboration with Moody’s Analytics. The report also revised the estimated gain from the January 2013 report up by 23,000 to 215,000 jobs. January 2013 BLS Employment Situation Report Shows Increase of 157000 Jobs

Total nonfarm payroll employment in the United States increased by 157,000 jobs in January 2013 while the unemployment rate at 7.9 percent and number of unemployed persons at 12.3 million changed little during the month, according to ‘THE EMPLOYMENT SITUATION — JANUARY 2013’ released today by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The report also revised the change in nonfarm employment for December 2012 from 155,000 jobs added up to 196,000 jobs added and the change for November 2012 was revised from 161,000 jobs added up to 247,000 jobs added.
