Attorney Les Rosen, a background check expert and CEO of Employment Screening Resources (ESR), will present two educational sessions at the 2011 Professionals In Human Resources Association (PIHRA) Conference and Exposition that runs from August 29 to 31, 2011 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. Rosen’s two sessions – ‘Web 2.0 Caution! Using Social Networking Sites and Search Engines to Screen Applicants’ and ‘International Background Checks: Global Due Diligence and Legal Compliance’ – will take place on Wednesday, August 31, 2011. For information about the conference, visit http://www.pihraconference.org/.

The first session – ‘Web 2.0 Caution! Using Social Networking Sites and Search Engines to Screen Applicants’ – takes place on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 from 9:45 AM to 11:00 AM and will examine the pros and cons of employers utilizing the Internet for background screening, including what information is available online, discrimination issues, the use of legal off-duty conduct, privacy, accuracy, and authenticity.

“Employers and recruiters have discovered a treasure trove of information on potential job applicants by using social networking sites and search engines,” says Rosen, author of ‘The Safe Hiring Manual.’ “However, the unrestricted use of Web 2.0 can land an HR professional in hot water. Just because it is online does not mean it is risk free or true.”

The second session – ‘International Background Checks: Global Due Diligence and Legal Compliance’ – takes place on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 from 11:15 AM to 12:30 PM and will introduce employers to international background checks, including the legal, privacy, practical, and cultural challenges employers in the United States face when attempting to obtain information from outside of the country.

“With the mobility of workers across international borders, a background check just in the United States is no longer adequate,” explains Rosen, a frequent speaker nationwide on employment screening issues as part of the ‘ESR Speaks’ training program. “Employers also cannot assume that a VISA means a worker has been cleared.”

About Employment Screening Resources (ESR):
Employment Screening Resources (ESR) literally wrote the book on background screening with “The Safe Hiring Manual” by ESR founder and President Lester Rosen. ESR streamlines the screening process and reduces administrative overhead though its proprietary technology solutions.  ESR is one of a select few firms accredited by The National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS®). This important recognition was achieved by successfully passing a third party audit demonstrating compliance with the NAPBS Background Screening Agency Accreditation Program. By choosing an accredited screening firm like ESR, employers know they have selected an agency that meets the highest industry standards.
