The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Office of Public Engagement has invited the public to participate in “Enlace,” a free Spanish language event focused on the E-Verify Self Check online service scheduled for Wednesday, March 1, 2012, at 3:30 PM to 5:00PM EST (12:30 to 2:00 PM PST). Those interested in attending the event may do so via a live Web stream at or by calling 1-888-989-4980, entering the passcode “ENLACE,” and downloading the presentation. Self Check was developed through a partnership between the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Social Security Administration (SSA) to provide individuals a tool to check their own employment eligibility status in the United States and correct their DHS and SSA records. Self Check enables individuals to enter the same information into Self Check that employers enter into E-Verify electronic employment eligibility verification system and is the first online E-Verify service offered directly to workers. The Enlace event on March 1 will provide attendees with USCIS agency updates, a presentation focused on Self Check, and an open forum segment to respond to questions from the public. A panel including representatives from USCIS will facilitate the discussion. For more information on the Enlace event, see the fliers below:

As reported earlier by ESR News, the USCIS announced in February 2012 that E-Verify Self Check is now available in all 50 United States, as well as Washington, D.C., Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands. Approximately 67,000 people have used Self Check – which is available in both English and Spanish – since its initial launch in March 2011, and the USCIS anticipates participation will dramatically increase with the service now available in all 50 U.S. states.
