U.S. private sector employment increased by 133,000 jobs from April 2012 to May 2012 with the private service-providing sector adding 132,000 jobs during the month, according to the May 2012 ADP National Employment Report® from Automatic Data Processing, Inc. (ADP®). The latest ADP National Employment Report, which marked the twenty-eighth consecutive monthly gain in jobs as measured by ADP, is available at: http://www.adpemploymentreport.com/pdf/FINAL_Report_May_12.pdf.
“This month’s ADP National Employment Report shows an increase of 133,000 new jobs, nearly entirely driven by the service-providing sector,” ADP President and CEO Carlos A. Rodriguez said in a press release. “We hope to see expanded job creation in the future, fueled by greater performance in the goods-producing and service-providing sectors alike.”
In the May 2012 ADP National Employment Report, the estimated gain from the previous month, March 2012 to April 2012, was revised down from the initial estimate of 119,000 jobs to a revised estimate of 113,000 jobs. Other U.S. private sector employment highlights from the May 2012 ADP Report include:
- Small businesses representing payrolls with 1 to 49 employees added 67,000 jobs from April 2012 to May 2012.
- Medium businesses representing payrolls with 50 to 499 employees added 57,000 jobs from April 2012 to May 2012.
- Large businesses representing payrolls with more than 499 employees added 9,000 jobs from April 2012 to May 2012.
Of the 67,000 jobs overall created in private small business employment in May 2012, the
ADP Small Business Report® – a subset of the ADP National Employment Report – found that 63,000 small business jobs were created in the service providing sector while 4,000 small business jobs were added in the goods producing sector.
Created by ADP in partnership with Macroeconomic Advisers, LLC, the ADP National Employment Report is derived from actual payroll data from approximately 500,000 U.S. business clients and measures the change in total nonfarm private employment each month. The June 2012 ADP National Employment Report will be released July 5, 2012.
