Attorney Lester S. Rosen, Founder and CEO of background check firm Employment Screening Resources (ESR), will present an interactive webinar for Thompson Media Group, ‘Avoiding Negligent Hiring with Background Checks,’ on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. EST. To learn more about the webinar, which has been pre-approved for 1.5 recertification credit hours toward PHR and SPHR recertification through the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI), please visit http://www.thompsoninteractive.com/site/offer.jsp?promo=001665EM&priority=00295706380.

“Background checks are a necessary step in avoiding negligent hiring,” says Rosen, author of ‘The Safe Hiring Manual,’ a comprehensive guide for employment screening that was updated for a second edition published in October 2012. “Even after the most diligent candidate selection process, hiring someone without conducting a thorough background check can lead to major legal and financial ramifications for a company.  If new hires are dishonest about education, employment or criminal history, employers could face the burden of having unqualified workers or even violent employees in their offices.”

During the 90 minute Intermediate level webinar, Rosen will help employers understand how to practice due diligence in hiring new employees and discuss strategies and trends in obtaining and utilizing background check information to keep employers from facing negligent hiring lawsuits. By knowing the proper way to conduct a thorough background check before making a hiring decision, employers can spot dishonest credentials and potential hiring red flags. Participants in the webinar targeted for Human Resource Professionals, Hiring Managers, Recruiters, Corporate Counsel, and Executive Management will learn:

  • How to identify fraudulent employment and education credentials.
  • How federal laws impact background checks.
  • Why background checks are a necessity for employers.
  • The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s (EEOC) stance on using criminal records, credit reports, and social networking sites to screen candidates.
  • What employers should you do if they face negligent hiring lawsuits.
