Private sector employment in the United States increased by 176,000 jobs from July 2013 to August 2013 on a seasonally adjusted basis, according to the August 2013 ADP National Employment Report® produced by Automatic Data Processing, Inc. “The U.S. private sector added 176,000 jobs in August, as companies of all sizes expanded their payrolls over the previous month. The August job gains are in line with the monthly average over the last 12 months,” ADP president and chief executive officer Carlos A. Rodriguez stated in a press release about the report.
The ADP report – which also revised the estimated gain from July 2013 down slightly from 200,000 jobs to 198,000 jobs – includes a breakdown of job growth by company size in August 2013 (NOTE: Sum of components in the report may not equal total due to rounding.):

- Medium businesses representing payrolls with 50 to 499 employees added 74,000 jobs.
- Large businesses representing payrolls with 500 or more employees added 32,000 jobs.
The ADP report also has a breakdown of job growth by sector in August 2013:
