Target Corp. will ‘Ban the Box’ asking job seekers about their criminal history on employment applications starting next year to comply with a new Minnesota law that takes effect January 1, 2014, according to a story from the StarTribune available at

The StarTribune reports that the budding ‘Ban the Box’ movement “calls for employers to wait until a prospective employee is being interviewed or has a provisional job offer before inquiring whether he or she has a criminal past” to give ex-offenders “a better chance at getting a job” and “level playing field.”

Minnesota-based Target had $73 billion in annual revenue and is “the state’s third-largest employer with close to 1,800 stores and 362,000 employees nationwide,” the StarTribune reports. Target became involved in the ‘Ban the Box’ effort last year as the bill was being “developed, formulated and debated.”
