The University of South Florida (USF) will not hire Manhattan College’s Steve Masiello as its new men’s basketball coach after a background check found he had never completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of Kentucky (UK) as claimed on his résumé, according to a report from The Tampa Tribune available at http://tbo.com/sports/colleges/usf-bulls/usf-deal-with-coach-falls-through-20140326/.
The Tampa Tribune reports the background check discrepancy stems from Masiello being described as “a 2000 graduate of the University of Kentucky with a degree in communications” in his biography with Manhattan College. However, while UK records show Masiello was a student from 1996 to 2000 he never received a degree. USF policy dictates all full-time coaching hires must have a bachelor’s degree.
