The California Association of Licensed Investigators (CALI) will sponsor a webinar hosted by Attorney and licensed Private Investigator Lester Rosen titled “Pre-Employment Background Checks in California: Dangers and Landmines Facing Private Investigators” on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at 2:00 PM Pacific Time. To register for the webinar, please visit

“Background checks are increasingly subject to litigation, legislation and regulation,” says Rosen, founder and CEO of background check firm Employment Screening Resources (ESR). “In addition, California has its own detailed requirements, and any failure to dot just one ‘i’ or cross one ‘t’ can expose a Private Investigator to $10,000 civil liability per background check even if no one was actually harmed.”

In the session, Rosen – author of “The Safe Hiring Manual” – will cover a number of topics including the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), numerous “only in California” rules, the dramatic increase in class action lawsuits, discrimination and privacy laws, the use of credit reports and social media, “Ban the Box,” and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) guidance on using criminal records when hiring.

More importantly, Rosen will explain how there is no exception to federal and state laws for Private Investigators, who are subject to all the same laws and regulations as any other Consumer Reporting Agency. “Pre-Employment Background Checks in California: Dangers and Landmines Facing Private Investigators” is an essential webinar for any PI interested in providing pre-employment screening services.

Rosen, founded Employment Screening Resources (ESR) in the San Francisco, CA-area in 1997, and the firm accredited by the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS) located in California. He is a nationally recognized expert on background checks who has presented at numerous conferences as part of the “ESR Speaks” program. To learn more, please visit
