Attorney and safe hiring expert Lester Rosen, Founder and CEO of Employment Screening Resources® (ESR), will present a 90 minute audio conference for entitled “Background Checks and Safe Hiring: Trends, Legal Developments, and Best Practices” on Tuesday, September 27, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Noon Pacific Time.

“Most employers recognize that conducting due diligence background checks on new hires is a mission critical task,” says Rosen, author of The Safe Hiring Manual. “Businesses cannot afford to be sued for negligent hiring if they hire employees that they should have known, through the exercise of due diligence background checks, were dangerous, unfit, dishonest, or unqualified.”

In the 90 minute training session, Rosen will review the latest trends and best practices for background checks and safe hiring. Attendees will learn legally complaint ways businesses can utilize to avoid a “bad hire” yet keep their employees and customers safe their companies out of court. Specifically, Rosen will cover the following issues with background checks on workers:

  • Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) Guidance on the use of criminal records during background checks.
  • Dangers of performing social media background checks on job applicants.
  • Tips for understanding limitations on international background checks.
  • Steps for dealing with resume fraud uncovered during background checks.
  • Best practices for handling temporary workers, privacy, and offshoring of personal data used for background checks.

This program “Background Checks and Safe Hiring: Trends, Legal Developments, and Best Practices” is approved for 1.5 recertification credit hours through the HR Certification Institute (HRCI).
