Attorney Lester Rosen, founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of leading background check firm Employment Screening Resources® (ESR), will present a session entitled “Background Checks: Trends, Best Practices and Legal Compliance” during the 2018 Global Security Exchange (GSX) Conference & Expo on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“Without exercising due diligence in hiring and employee retention, employer risk workers with an unsuitable criminal record or a falsified background that can result in workplace violence and a legal and financial nightmare,” explains Rosen, author of ‘The Safe Hiring Manual.’ “However, the background check process had become more complicated due to federal and state legislation, litigation, and regulation.”
During the session – which is number 6311 and lasts from 3:45 PM to 4:45 PM PT – Rosen will discuss cutting-edge background check issues such as the use of social media for screening, fast spreading “Ban the Box” laws, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) guidance on the use of criminal records, and how to avoid class action lawsuits for alleged violations of the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
Rosen founded Employment Screening Resources® (ESR) in the San Francisco, California area in 1997. He was the chairperson of the steering committee that founded the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS), a professional trade organization for the screening industry. He was also elected to the first board of directors and served as the co-chair in 2004. ESR is accredited by the NAPBS.
