“On one hand, employers are concerned about negligent hiring and workplace safety since they can be sued if they hire workers with unsuitable criminal records that cause harm,” explains Rosen, author of ‘The Safe Hiring Manual’ and a frequent speaker on background check issues. “However, society also wants to ensure ex-offenders have a second chance to obtain employment and become law-abiding citizens.”
