Attorney Lester Rosen, the founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of leading global background check provider Employment Screening Resources® (ESR), will present a live webinar with Lorman Education Services entitled “Screening Applicants Using Social Networking Sites: Legal or Liability?” from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Wednesday, August 28, 2019. To register, click here.
During the webinar, Rosen – the author of “The Safe Hiring Manual” – will discuss how employers and recruiters are examining social networking sites to learn more about job applicants even though entries on these sites are typically not meant for employers to view. Utilizing social media to learn about potential employees can be effective as long as it does not become a legal risk. Attendees will be able to:
- Explain why recruiters and employers have an interest in incorporating social networking sites in their process to screen applicants.
- Define potential online tools for employers- search engines, social networking sites, blogs, and chat rooms.
- Describe the media that can source candidates.
- Identify how web 2.0 has made it extremely easy for job applicants to create fake employment and education credentials.
The webinar has been approved for 1.5 recertification credit hours toward general recertification through the HR Certification Institute (HRCI). Lorman Education Services is recognized by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) to offer Professional Development Credits (PDCs) for the SHRM-CPSM or SHRM-SCPSM and the webinar is valid for 1.5 PDC(s) for the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP.
