The Professional Background Screening Association (PBSA) – a non-profit trade association founded in 2003 to represent the interests of companies offering background screening services – will hold its 2019 Asia Pacific (APAC) Annual General Meeting (AGM) Conference in Sydney, Australia from November 7 to 8, 2019.
The PBSA 2019 APAC AGM Conference will look at lessons from the past and expectations for the future for background screening in a rapidly changing and growing APAC market. An array of speakers will cover topics such as data protection, information technology trends, identity theft, and criminal records.
The conference will offer more opportunities than ever before for PBSA members from the U.S. to get to know their APAC colleagues with a number of networking events planned that include a spectacular cruise in the iconic Sydney Harbor. The PBSA was formerly known as the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS) before completing its transition to a global organization in September of 2019, a vision initiated 12 years ago with the addition of an international committee leading to three international chapters in the following years.
A global association with chapters in APAC, Canada, Europe, and the United States, the PBSA provides educational resources, industry practices, accreditation programs, and advocacy to nearly 900 member companies performing background screening around the world. In May of 2019, the PBSA released the results of its third annual survey of how Human Resources (HR) professionals view and use background screening in employment and found that 96 percent of employers conducted one or more types of background screening, up by one percentage point from 2018.

ESR founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Attorney Lester Rosen was the chairperson of the steering committee that founded the PBSA in 2003 and he served as a co-chair in 2004. Rosen received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the PBSA in 2019, the highest honor awarded by the PBSA.
