The Professional Background Screening Association (PBSA) – a non-profit trade association representing the background screening industry – will continue to become a more global organization as international background checks become more widespread in 2020, according to the “ESR Top Ten Background Check Trends” for 2020 compiled by leading global background check firm Employment Screening Resources® (ESR).
Formerly called the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS) since its founding in 2003, the PBSA announced in September of 2019 that its members overwhelmingly voted to mark the culmination of the association’s transition into a truly global organization and approved the rebrand to the PBSA which included a new logo, branding, and a new website at www.thepbsa.org.
“PBSA has a significant international footprint, and we only expect it to grow larger,” PBSA Executive Director Melissa Sorenson stated in the announcement. “It was clear to us that we needed to bring our name and brand in line with what our association is today – a truly global organization. I am thrilled with this new direction and am excited to see what is next for PBSA on the global stage.”
A global association with existing chapters in Asia-Pacific (APAC), Canada, Europe, and the United States, the PBSA provides educational resources, industry practices, accreditation programs, and advocacy to member companies that work in employment and tenant screening around the world. PBSA is the only association of its kind and has become the trusted global authority for the background screening profession.
“In today’s global economy, information moves faster than ever before and the opportunities and challenges facing the screening profession often have ripple effects around the world,” PBSA Chair Bon Idziak stated in the announcement. “The new PBSA brand speaks to our ability to transcend borders and symbolizes our modern approach to screening, privacy, and data security, and the technology our industry embodies.”
Attorney Lester Rosen, founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Employment Screening Resources® (ESR), was chairperson of the steering committee that founded the NAPBS/PBSA in 2003 and served as first co-chair in 2004. In September of 2019, Rosen received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the PBSA, the highest honor awarded by the association and named after the late Michael Sankey, the award’s first recipient in 2018.
The PBSA represents more than 900 member companies engaged in background screening around the world. Employment Screening Resources® (ESR) is a founding member of the PBSA and accredited under the PBSA’s Background Screening Agency Accreditation Program (BSAAP) which is a seal of approval bringing recognition to background screening organizations committed to achieving excellence.
Since 2008, Employment Screening Resources® (ESR) has selected influential and emerging background check trends that have impacted the background screening industry.
