The Professional Background Screening Association (PBSA) – a non-profit trade association representing the screening industry formerly known as the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS) – is asking employers and human resources (HR) professionals to complete an industry survey on hiring practices before a deadline of Sunday, March 15, 2020. To fill out this brief survey, click here.
The survey is important to the PBSA, its members, and the screening industry worldwide, as the data gathered demonstrates the impact of screening to create safe homes and workspaces. This data is so important that last year the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) – the agency enforcing the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) – cited the results of the 2019 PBSA industry survey in a CFPB report on background screening.
In 2019, the PBSA commissioned HR.com to conduct a national survey of 2,301 HR professionals to gauge their views on background screening – found that 96 percent of respondents conducted some type of employment background screening on job candidates. The figure of 96 percent in the 2019 survey was up by one percentage point from the 2018 survey and the same number as the 2017 survey.
Founded as a non-profit trade association in 2003, the PBSA was established to represent the interest of companies offering background screening services and currently represents nearly 900 member firms around the world. In September of 2019, the PBSA announced a rebranding of its name to mark the culmination of the transition into a global organization, which included a new logo and a new website at www.thepbsa.org.
The PBSA – which already has existing chapters in Asia-Pacific (APAC), Canada, Europe, and the United States – will continue to grow into a truly global organization as international background checks become more widespread, according to the “ESR Top Background Check Trends” for 2020 compiled by leading global background check provider Employment Screening Resources® (ESR).
Attorney Lester Rosen, founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Employment Screening Resources® (ESR), was chairperson of the steering committee that founded the PBSA and served as the first co-chair in 2004. In September of 2019, Rosen received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the PBSA, the highest honor awarded by the association and named after the late Michael Sankey, the award’s first recipient in 2018.
Employment Screening Resources® (ESR) is a founding member of the PBSA and is accredited by the PBSA under the PBSA’s Background Screening Agency Accreditation Program (BSAAP). The BSAAP is a widely recognized seal of approval bringing national recognition to background screening organizations committed to achieving excellence through high professional standards.
