The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) – which oversees lawful immigration to the United States – has released a revised ‘M-274, Handbook for Employers: Guidance for Completing Form I-9’ with expanded information on properly completing the new ‘Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification.’

On January 31, 2020, the USCIS published a new Form I-9 with a version date of “10/21/2019” that employers should have started using by May 1, 2020. The USCIS allowed the use of the prior version of the form with a version date of “07/17/2017 N” until April 30, 2020. The new form is at www.uscis.gov/i-9.
