On July 13, 2020, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) – a U.S. government agency that protects consumers and promotes competition – will host “An FTC Workshop on GLB Standards” that seeks input on proposed changes to the Safeguards Rule of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley (GLB) Act which requires financial institutions to develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive information security program, according to a press release.
Originally scheduled to take place on May 13, 2020, the virtual workshop will examine issues raised in response to amendments the FTC has proposed to the Safeguards Rule. In 2019, the FTC sought comments on the proposed amendments to the Rule. “An FTC Workshop on GLB Standards” will be held Monday, July 13, 2020, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time and feature five panel discussions on a final agenda that includes these topics:
- The Costs and Benefits of Information Security Programs (9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.).
- Information Security Programs and Smaller Businesses (10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.).
- Continuous Monitoring, Penetration, and Vulnerability Testing (1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.).
