Since the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has caused many aspects of American life to move online in 2020, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and partner agencies are reminding the public to do their part and #BeCyberSmart during the National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM) that is observed each October.

Now in its 17th year, NCSAM is a government and private sector partnership that raises awareness about cybersecurity and stresses the collective effort required to stop cybercrimes, online thefts, and scams. As the premier cyber investigative agency, the FBI works to keep the public safe online and receives victim reports.

Each week of NCSAM 2020, the FBI is highlighting a priority issue. The first two weeks focus on online threats and scams facing businesses, organizations, and individuals. Weeks three and four focus on efforts to foster and build a world-class cyber workforce, partnerships with the private sector, and support for victims of cybercrime.

The FBI is the lead federal agency for investigating cyber attacks and intrusions by criminals and nation-states who believe they can compromise U.S. networks, steal financial and intellectual property, and put critical infrastructure at risk without facing risk themselves.
