Background Screening News

Written By ESR News Blog Editor Thomas Ahearn

The Professional Background Screening Association (PBSA) – a non-profit trade group representing background screening firms worldwide – is asking employers and Human Resources (HR) professionals to complete its “5th Annual Background Screening Industry Survey” regarding their use of employment background screening services no later than May 5, 2021. To fill out this brief survey, employers and HR professionals should click here.

Partnering with HR.com, the PBSA is able to collect vital information from thousands of employers around the world, and by encouraging their clients and contacts in the HR space to complete the survey, PBSA members are an integral part of its success. The PBSA is in its fifth year of collecting information about how employers use background screening for their businesses and communities after surveys in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020.

All responses are confidential and will be used to help the PBSA better meet the needs of HR professionals while also providing them with trends that will help them as they evaluate their screening needs. By demonstrating the impact of screening to create safe homes and workspaces and highlighting the prevalence of background screening among employers, the information gleaned from the survey benefits PBSA and its members by:

  • Increasing the impact of the industry as we advocate worldwide to collectively influence positive change for the background screening profession
  • Reiterating the importance of background screening to employers, resulting in more business for the industry
  • Positioning PBSA as a thought leader and the premier background screening association in the world, providing even more credibility to PBSA member companies
  • Generating media coverage that increases brand awareness for PBSA and keeps background screening top-of-mind for employers, lawmakers, regulators, and other stakeholders
  • Providing professional background screeners with key insights into what potential and current clients are looking for in a screening partner

The 2020 survey from the PBSA and HR.com – which showed 94 percent of employers conducted at least one type of background screening – provided the screening industry with tremendously helpful information, like the value organizations place on international screening capabilities, the timing of when background checks take place in the hiring process, and the types of information companies look for in background screening reports.

Since the survey is completed by the PBSA in partnership with HR.com, the link will direct you to an HR.com survey. Respondents will not receive unwanted solicitations from either PBSA or HR.com. However, they will have the opportunity to receive a summary of the survey findings and attend a webinar sharing the same results.
