Attorney Lester Rosen, founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of San Francisco Bay area background check firm Employment Screening Resources® (ESR), will present a webinar about “Background Checks & Hiring” sponsored by the San Francisco Employer Advisory Council (SF EAC) on Thursday, November 4, 2021.
“Just one bad hire can result in a legal and financial nightmare. Without background checks, employers may hire workers with unsuitable criminal records or falsified credentials that can create problems. However, a rising tide of litigation, legislation, and regulation is making hiring more complex than ever,” Rosen explained.
Attendees of this webinar with Rosen – the author of “The Safe Hiring Manual” – will learn how to keep their businesses out of court and will leave with an understanding of the immediate steps they can take to avoid bad hires while complying with laws that regulate background checks. Attendees of this event will also:
- Learn how the background screening landscape has changed and the due diligence needed to have in place to avoid a lawsuit.
- Understand the basics of a negligent hiring lawsuit and defenses that work and do not work.
- Get acquainted with cutting edge issues and new legislation that affects employers such as “Ban the Box” laws, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) Guidance on criminal records, and the latest on Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) class action lawsuits.
- Learn what organizations can do today to ensure a legally compliant program and hire the best employees.
Rosen was chairperson of the steering committee that founded the Professional Background Screening Association (PBSA) – a nonprofit organization representing the background screening industry worldwide – in 2003 and served as first co-chair. In 2019, he received the PBSA Lifetime Achievement Award.
