On May 11, 2023, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will hold a virtual panel discussion on “Cloud Computing: Taking Stock and Looking Ahead” to discuss the business practices of cloud computing providers including issues related to security, competition, and emerging technology, according to a press release from the FTC.
“Cloud computing is used by a wide range of industries for on-demand access to data storage, servers, networks, and more, and is increasingly central to the economy,” stated the FTC press release. The virtual panel discussion will include a diverse set of experts who will discuss issues associated with cloud computing.
FTC Chair Lina M. Khan will provide opening remarks. An agenda and list of panelists are available on the event page. The webcast will take place from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM Eastern Time and a link to the event will be posted on FTC.gov. Registration is not required to watch the webcast. The event is free and open to the public.
FTC staff is currently seeking public comment on cloud-related issues outlined in its Request for Information, as well as the impact of cloud computing on specific industries including healthcare, finance, transportation, e-commerce, and defense. The deadline to submit comments was extended by 30 days until June 21, 2023.
