Rosen will present his first SHRM session ‘Employers: Your Use of Criminal Records Could Get You Sued’ on Monday, April 18, 2016, from 10:45 AM to 12:00 PM. Attendees of this session will learn how to ensure that use of criminal record checks in hiring does not land them in court or under investigation. This session will also demonstrate that creating a background check policy that is legally compliant is a necessity for any company that performs criminal background checks. This session will also cover:
- How federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and state laws regulate the use of criminal records.
- The impact of Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) guidance on criminal records.
- Why the “Ban the Box” movement is reaching a national tipping point.
Rosen will present his second SHRM session ‘It’s a Jungle Out There! Avoiding Negligent Hiring Claims with Compliant Background Screening’ on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, from 10:30 AM to 11:45 AM. This session will provide attendees with an update on federal and state laws, lawsuits, and regulations, and also examine key areas of legal compliance designed to help employers hire the best while avoiding legal fallout from allegations that they failed to follow the law. This session will help attendees understand:
- The elements and defenses to negligent hiring lawsuits.
- The current explosion in class-action lawsuits related to background checks.
- How to audit current practices to ensure you are legally compliant.
Rosen is also a frequent presenter nationwide for “ESR Speaks” and his speaking appearances including a number of national and state conferences. Both sessions presented by Rosen are worth 1.25 SHRM Professional Development Credits (PDCs) and 1.25 HR Credits from HR Certification Institute (HRCI). Competencies include HR Expertise and Critical Evaluation while the intended audience is midlevel. To find out more about the two SHRM sessions, click Criminal Records and Negligent Hiring.
