The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) – the world’s largest anti-fraud organization – is asking businesses to join the global effort to minimize the impact of fraud by promoting anti-fraud awareness and education during International Fraud Awareness Week that takes place November 17 to 23, 2019.
Organizations worldwide lose an estimated five percent of their annual revenues to fraud, according to the 2018 ACFE Report to the Nations on Occupational Fraud and Abuse. Fraud takes many shapes and forms, among them corporate fraud, consumer fraud, tax fraud, identity theft, and many others.
International Fraud Awareness Week helps anti-fraud professionals go further in their role and start discussions amongst peers, coworkers, executives, and stakeholders in their community about how important fraud prevention is to society as a whole. Ways to get involved include:
- Print and post a free downloadable Fraud Week poster and fraud prevention checklist.
- Download the free Fraud Week logo to share on materials or websites.
- Involve local chambers of commerce or city councils to spread tips on fraud prevention.
- Perform a fraud check-up for an organization and present findings to executives.
- Post on social media using new badges and informative images with the tag #fraudweek.
International Fraud Awareness Week is an opportunity for anti-fraud professionals and communities to come together to look at the far reaching effects of fraud. Interested parties can submit their event for International Fraud Awareness Week 2019 to be displayed on www.fraudweek.com/events/.
