Attorney Lester Rosen, founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of global background check firm Employment Screening Resources® (ESR), will speak at the HR West 2020 Conference in a presentation titled “The Use of Criminal Records in Hiring – Landmines and Opportunities for Employers” from 3:15 PM to 4:30 PM Pacific Time on Monday, March 9, 2020. To avoid bad hiring decisions and lawsuits for negligent hiring, employers often utilize checks on criminal records. Human Resources (HR) professionals need to understand the complexities involved, such as discrimination issues and the role of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Ban the Box and Fair Chance Hiring laws, state laws limiting the use of criminal records, and the need for re-entry programs.
In addition, due to record low unemployment, many employers have discovered the viability of considering ex-offenders for appropriate positions and how to approach the use of criminal records in hiring. The HR West 2020 Conference – which is powered by HR.com – will take place from March 9 to March 11, 2020, at the Oakland Convention Center on 550 10th Street in Oakland, California.
The HR West Conference has convened annually for 36 years in the San Francisco Bay Area and attracts HR professionals from across the country, with a heavy presence from Silicon Valley companies. These HR experts represent some of the most seasoned HR professionals who deliver on some of the biggest HR demands in the profession since they practice HR in California and around the world.
Rosen – author of “The Safe Hiring Manual” – has been a frequent presenter at numerous national Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) conferences as well as numerous SHRM Talent Management and SHRM Law and Legislation Conferences, in addition to numerous state and local Human Resources conferences. His upcoming speaking dates are available on the ESR Event Calendar.
Rosen founded Employment Screening Resources® (ESR) in 1997 in the San Francisco, California area. He was chairperson of the steering committee that founded the Professional Background Screening Association (PBSA) – a non-profit organization formerly known as the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS) – and served as the first co-chair.
Employment Screening Resources® (ESR) is a leading global background check provider that is accredited by the PBSA, undergoes annual SOC 2 audits, adheres to the Privacy Shield Framework, and was named a top background screening service company for enterprise organizations by HRO Today Magazine’s Baker’s Dozen.
